Looking Ahead

Dazzling electricity pylonsThe development of the Niagara Mohawk System, like that of the immense, populous area it serves, has been gradual but persistent, stemming back to the days before electricity and gas were dreamed of. Many men and many groups have contributed vision, courage, energy, and capital to the perfecting of New York's power resources and other facilities, making them available to more and more people.

Today the Niagara Mohawk System serves an expanse of more than 21,000 square miles in New York State, an area nearly equal to the states of Vermont, Massachusetts, and Connecticut combined. Few other sections of the country present such a variety of residential, agricultural, industrial, and commercial demands for electricity and gas. The System is always on the move to anticipate these needs and insure adequate supplies and reserves from the most efficient sources of energy.
