Yankee Stadium

Since its opening on April 18, 1923 Yankee Stadium has been the home of the New York Yankees and has been universally recognized as the most famous athletic arena in the United States. Its history and massive appearance have made it an important part of New York City as a landmark. During 1974-75 it was completely renovated and the fully-remodeled Yankee Stadium reopened on April 15, 1976. In centerfieid there are three monuments erected in memory of Babe Ruth, former manager Miller Muggins, and Lou Gehrig. To their left is a plaque commemorating the Pope's 1965 visit.
