The twin 110-story towers of the World Trade Center are among the world's tallest buildings. They rise 1,350 feet above the street and house the United States Customs facilities, offices of many consulates, world trade information service, governmental agencies and private business engaged in export-import trade. Con­struction started in 1966. The World Trade Center was built by the Port of New York Authority was[and] completed in 1976. It is designed to be the focal point for international trade and was built in accordance with legislation enacted by the states of New York and New Jersey,
