Triborough Bridge and High Bridge Tower

The Manhattan span of the famous 17,710-foot long Triborough Bridge carries persons from either the Bronx or Queens to Manhattan. It is considerably smaller than the graceful suspension bridge that spans the East River. Completed in 1938 it is 1,380 feet long. A British treasure ship sank in Hell Gate and countless attempts have been made to find the cargo of coins she took down with her.

High Bridge Tower, 170 feet high, was built in 1872 as part of the old Croton Aqueduct which crossed the Harlem River on High Bridge at this point. The tower is no longer in use and has been designated a historical landmark. The tall tower is distinguished for its ornate "gingerbread" style stone work.
